De la famille des cornemuses, la cabrette voit le jour \u00e0 Paris au milieu du XIX\u00e8me<\/sup> si\u00e8cle. Elle est l\u2019instrument de la musique de la communaut\u00e9 auvergnate\u2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Appel\u00e9e aussi musette, sa rencontre avec l\u2019accord\u00e9on donne naissance \u00e0 l\u2019embl\u00e9matique \u00ab bal musette \u00bb. La cabrette est en quelque sorte un objet de prestige pour le musicien : le sac est en peau, recouvert d’une \u00ab robe \u00bb souvent en velours. Quant \u00e0 la t\u00eate, qui relie la poche au hautbois, elle est parfois sculpt\u00e9e. Le hautbois de certaines cabrettes prestigieuses fut m\u00eame r\u00e9alis\u00e9 en ivoire, parfois richement sculpt\u00e9. Offertes \u00e0 l\u2019occasion de grands \u00e9v\u00e9nements ou command\u00e9es par des musiciens revendiquant un certain statut social, ces cabrettes en ivoire \u00e9taient con\u00e7ues comme des \u0153uvres d\u2019art \u00e0 part enti\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Elles n\u00e9cessitaient, en plus du travail du facteur, l\u2019intervention de sculpteurs sur ivoire, nombreux \u00e0 Paris \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque, surtout dans le quartier de la Bastille. La plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bre cabrette en ivoire fut celle d\u2019Antonin Bouscatel, le roi des cabretta\u00efres (appellation du joueur de cabrette) et portait le doux nom de \u00ab la novia \u00bb (la mari\u00e9e). A l\u2019instar de la lutherie par exemple, l\u2019instrument poss\u00e8de ses facteurs mythiques. Ils ont pour noms Costeroste, Alias, Franc, Amadieu, Combabessou, Roque\u2026 Dufayet fut le dernier des fabricants historiques parisiens. Il travaillait Passage Thi\u00e9r\u00e9 \u00e0 Paris dans le 11\u00e8me arrondissement. Il a arr\u00eat\u00e9 sa fabrication en 1938 et d\u00e9c\u00e9da en 1939.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019instrument est constitu\u00e9 d\u2019un porte-vent qui relie le sac \u00e0 un soufflet pour l\u2019alimentation en air (il <\/em>existait \u00e9galement des cabrettes dans lesquelles le musicien soufflait directement).
Le hautbois (\u00e0 anche double) est aussi appel\u00e9 le pied. Il est \u00e0 perce conique et est souvent tourn\u00e9 en bois : en \u00e9b\u00e8ne, en palissandre ou encore en buis. La tonalit\u00e9 du “pied” est toujours donn\u00e9e en centim\u00e8tres. On parle d\u2019un “pied de 39” pour un hautbois Do. il existe des pieds de diff\u00e9rentes longueurs dans diff\u00e9rentes tonalit\u00e9s.
Enfin, accol\u00e9 au pied, il y a toujours un petit bourdon, rarement en fonction.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

LA CABRETTE: THE BAGPIPES OF THE AUVERGNE REGION<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

A member of the bagpipes family of musical instruments, the \u201ccabrette\u201d was born in Paris in the middle of the 19th<\/sup> century. It is the musical instrument of the people of Auvergne.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Also called \u201cmusette\u201d, the cabrette\u2019s encounter with the accordion gave rise to the famous \u201cbal musette\u201d. The cabrette is in part an object of distinction for its player: the bag is made of skin, covered with a \u201cdress\u201d often made of velvet. As for the head, which connects the bag to the oboe, it is sometimes carved. The oboe of prestigious cabrettes was sometimes made of ivory, and elaborately carved. Presented on the occasion of major events or commissioned by musicians wanting to project a certain social status, these ivory cabrettes were intended as works of art in their own right.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the work of the instrument maker, their manufacture required the contribution of ivory carvers, which were numerous in Paris at that time, especially in the Bastille district. The most famous cabrette in ivory was that of Antonin Bouscatel, the king of the \u201ccabretta\u00efres\u201d (name given to cabrette players), and was affectionately nicknamed \u201cla novia\u201d (the bride). Like with the violin for instance, the instrument has its mythical makers. Their names are Costeroste, Alias, Franc, Amadieu, Combabessou, Roque, etc. Dufayet was the last of the great Parisian manufacturers. He worked on Passage Thi\u00e9r\u00e9 in the 11th district of Paris. He cessed production in 1938 and died in 1939.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The instrument consists of a blowpipe which connects the mouthpiece to the bag for the air supply (there were also cabrettes in which the musician blew directly).
The oboe (with double reed) is also called the \u201cfoot\u201d. It has a conical bore and is often of turned wood: ebony, rosewood or even boxwood. The tone of the foot is always given in centimetres, as in a “foot of 39” for an oboe in C for instance. There are feet of different lengths to produce different tones.
Finally, attached to the foot, there is always a small drone, which rarely used.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
