class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Anner Bylsma, de son vrai nom Anne Bijlsma, est n\u00e9 \u00e0 La Haye en 1934 et mort \u00e0 Amsterdam en 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enfant de musiciens, il \u00e9tudie avec Carel van Boomkamp au Conservatoire royal de La Haye, qui le sensibilise \u00e0 la musique baroque &#8211; il en demeurera profond\u00e9ment marqu\u00e9. D\u00e8s 1957, il re\u00e7oit le prix d\u2019excellence du Conservatoire et d\u00e9bute peu de temps apr\u00e8s en tant que violoncelliste solo dans l\u2019Orchestre de l\u2019Op\u00e9ra des Pays-Bas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sa carri\u00e8re s\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e8re en 1959, lorsqu\u2019il remporte le Premier prix du Concours international Pablo Casals de Mexico en 1959. Son talent pr\u00e9coce l\u2019am\u00e8ne \u00e0 occuper, d\u00e8s 1962, la place de violoncelle solo \u00e0 l\u2019Orchestre du <em>Concertgebouw <\/em>d\u2019Amsterdam. Il y restera six ans tout en commen\u00e7ant une carri\u00e8re de soliste. Ensemble, ils interpr\u00e8tent un vaste r\u00e9pertoire de musique baroque, de Bach \u00e0 Corelli, en passant par Haendel et Telemann.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>A partir de cette \u00e9poque, Anner Bylsma \u00e9vite d&#8217;utiliser des cordes en acier sur ses instruments d\u2019\u00e9poque afin de retrouver la sonorit\u00e9 la plus authentique et fid\u00e8le au r\u00e9pertoire jou\u00e9. Cette approche des \u0153uvres est qualifi\u00e9e d\u2019historiquement inform\u00e9e, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire \u201cune interpr\u00e9tation qui essaie de se rapprocher le plus possible des intentions et des conditions d\u2019origine de la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019une \u0153uvre\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>. A cette fin, ils jouaient sur des instruments \u00e0 cordes en boyau avec des archets adapt\u00e9s \u00e0 chaque pi\u00e8ce, afin de se rapprocher le plus possible du timbre de l\u2019\u00e9poque. En outre, il joue r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement avec des groupes et des orchestres de chambre aussi divers que l&#8217;<em>Orpheus Chamber Orchestra<\/em>, <em>Tafelmusik<\/em>, l&#8217;<em>Australian Chamber Orchestra<\/em>, l&#8217;<em>Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment<\/em>, le <em>Freiburger Barock<\/em> et <em>Rondom<\/em> &#8211; un ensemble de chambre sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9 dans la musique du XXe si\u00e8cle. Il s\u2019est notamment produit avec l&#8217;<em>Orchestra of St. Luke&#8217;s<\/em> au <em>Carnegie Hall<\/em> de New York et en r\u00e9cital avec Malcom Bilson au <em>Merkin Hall<\/em>, \u00e9galement \u00e0 New York.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Bylsma appara\u00eet sur le label Vivarte de Sony Classical. Ses enregistrements sont vari\u00e9s, de Beethoven (<em>The Complete Sonatas for Pianoforte and Violoncello<\/em> S2K 60761 ; <em>The Cello and the King of Prussia SK<\/em> 63360) \u00e0 Vivaldi (SK 62719), Schubert (SK 62695), Brahms (SK 68252), etc. Ils ont re\u00e7u de nombreux prix, notamment le prix Edison, le Diapason d&#8217;or, le prix Liszt et, plus r\u00e9cemment, le prix Vivaldi. L\u00e0-bas, il devint rapidement l\u2019un des plus brillants archetiers de la Maison et y resta cinq ann\u00e9es, avant de repartir s\u2019\u00e9tablir \u00e0 Mirecourt et d\u2019employer plusieurs ouvriers. Durant ses ann\u00e9es parisiennes, il r\u00e9alisa des archets en mod\u00e8le \u201cVUILLAUME\u201d, \u00e0 la t\u00eate g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement assez forte et ronde, et \u00e0 la hausse au d\u00e9gorgement prononc\u00e9. href=\"https:\/\/vichy-encheres.com\/2021\/11\/14\/archets-etienne-pajeot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Etienne Pajeot<\/a> et de Jean Joseph Martin. Sign\u00e9e \u201cF.N. Voirin \u00e0 Paris\u201d et dat\u00e9 vers 1880 &#8211; soit cinq ans avant sa mort &#8211; cet archet a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9 durant sa plus belle p\u00e9riode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cAinsi disparut trop pr\u00e9cocement le chef de file d\u2019une g\u00e9n\u00e9ration d\u2019archetiers dont l\u2019oeuvre constitue la charni\u00e8re parfaite entre l\u2019Ecole de Peccatte, avec ses mod\u00e8les carr\u00e9s, puissants et parfois m\u00eame un peu lourds et l\u2019Ecole de Vuillaume, dans la deuxi\u00e8me moiti\u00e9 du XIX\u00e8 si\u00e8cle, avec ses mod\u00e8les plus \u201cf\u00e9minins\u201d.<\/p><cite>Bernard Millant, Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Raffin, <em>L\u2019Archet<\/em>, Paris, L\u2019Archet Editions, 2000, tome II, p.361<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Rappelons que Voirin se forma \u00e0 Mirecourt aupr\u00e8s de Jean Simon avant de partir \u00e0 Paris, d\u00e8s 1855, pour travailler chez Vuillaume &#8211; tout comme Jean Joseph Martin en 1858. Ils travaill\u00e8rent au m\u00eame moment l\u00e0-bas, ce qui explique la proximit\u00e9 stylistique de certains de leurs archets. Vuillaume, tr\u00e8s satisfait par le travail de Voirin, le mentionna comme collaborateur dans la r\u00e9alisation des instruments pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019exposition de 1867<a href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>. Voirin, qui s\u2019\u00e9tablit \u00e0 son compte en 1870 \u00e0 Paris, \u201cchange alors de style : les t\u00eates deviennent plus fines, caract\u00e9ristique qui ne va cesser de s\u2019accentuer jusqu\u2019\u00e0 sa mort. Il est ainsi un des rares archetiers dont le style se sera affin\u00e9 avec le temps et l\u2019exp\u00e9rience.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a> &#8211; une caract\u00e9ristique dont class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Anner Bylsma, whose real name is Anne Bijlsma, was born in The Hague in 1934 and died in Amsterdam in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was the child of musicians, and studied with Carel van Boomkamp at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where his appreciation for baroque music burgeoned \u2013 something that would have a lasting and profound impact on his career. As early as 1957, he received the Conservatory&#8217;s Award of Excellence, and soon afterwards made his debut as principal cellist in the Dutch Opera Orchestra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His career really took off in 1959, when he won First Prize at the Pablo Casals International Competition in Mexico in 1959. His precocious talent led him to occupy, in 1962, the position of principal cellist in the <em>Concertgebouw<\/em> Orchestra of Amsterdam. He remained there for six years while embarking on a career as a soloist. Together, they performed a vast repertoire of baroque music, including works by Bach, Corelli, Handel and Telemann.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>From then on, Anner Bylsma avoided using steel strings on his period instruments in order to produce the most authentic sound possible and to be more faithful to the instrumental practices in use at the time the works were created. This approach is referred to as historically informed, in other words &#8220;an interpretation that tries to come as close as possible to the original intentions and conditions of the creation of a composition&#8221;<a href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>. To this end, they played on gut stringed instruments, with bows matching the period of each piece, in order to come as close as possible to the particular timbre of the time. In addition, he regularly performed with groups and chamber orchestras as diverse as the <em>Orpheus Chamber Orchestra<\/em>, <em>Tafelmusik<\/em>, the <em>Australian Chamber Orchestra<\/em>, the <em>Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment<\/em>, the <em>Freiburger Barock<\/em> and <em>Rondom<\/em> &#8211; a chamber ensemble specializing in 20th century music. He performed with the <em>Orchestra of St. Luke\u2019s<\/em> at <em>Carnegie Hall<\/em> in New York and in recitals with Malcom Bilson at <em>Merkin Hall<\/em>, also in New York.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Bylsma recorded on the Sony Classical Vivarte label. His recordings are varied, and include works by Beethoven (<em>The Complete Sonatas for Pianoforte and Violoncello S2K 60761<\/em>; <em>The Cello and the King of Prussia SK 63360<\/em>) Vivaldi (SK 62719), Schubert (SK 62695), Brahms (SK 68252), etc. They have received numerous awards, including the Edison Prize, the Diapason d\u2019or, the Liszt Prize and, most recently, the Vivaldi Prize. His recording of the Brahms Sonatas (SK 68249) was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1995<a href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>. <br>The great musician is also the author of <em>Bach, the Fencing Master<\/em>, dedicated to Bach&#8217;s first three cello suites.<br>Finally, he was a respected and appreciated professor at the Paris Conservatory, at the <em>Hochschule<\/em> in Berlin and at the <em>Juilliard School<\/em> in New York. His appearance in the documentary <em>Une le\u00e7on particuli\u00e8re<\/em>&nbsp;provides a good overview of his musical sensibility, his talent and his teaching methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>As a virtuoso and a pioneer of historically informed interpretations, Anner Bylsma was particularly careful in selecting instruments suited to his repertoire, capable of reproducing the original sounds of the time, and consistent with the historical context in which the works were created. He therefore played on first-class instruments, like his cello by Matteo Goffriller from 1695, or the one by Giovanni Francesco Pressenda from 1865 &#8211; which he fitted with gut strings.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithsonianchambermusic.org\/collection\/stradivarius-cello-1701-servais\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Smithsonian Institute in Washington also lent him a Stradivarius from 1701, the legendary Servais<\/a>. He was no less demanding when choosing his bows and built a collection of exceptional examples, several of which Vichy Ench\u00e8res will have the honour to offer for sale at auction on 2 December 2021.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Etienne Pajeot<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>In this sale, you will find in particular a very beautiful cello bow stick made around 1840 by  d&#8217;<a href=\"http:\/\/pajeot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00c9tienne Pajeot<\/a>. This bow stick is very typical of the golden period of the maker, when he was at the peak of his abilities. This example, in good condition, attests to Pajeot&#8217;s high standards in selecting materials, especially his pernambuco, which is exceptional. These high standards were not limited to the wood he used, but applied also to the choice of ivory, mother-of-pearl or even tortoiseshell, in order to elevate the bow.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The shape of this stick is more refined and feminine than previously, and is typical of his golden period. The result is beautiful and delicate, and it is not surprising that Anner Bylsma was seduced by it, this bow was one of his favorites. Besides its aesthetic qualities, this bow is very accomplished technically. <a href=\"http:\/\/pajeot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00c9tienne Pajeot<\/a> was one of the most brilliant bow makers of his generation and one of Mirecourt&#8217;s major figures. Always on the lookout for innovations, he contributed himself to the advances in bow making, and his output highly sought after by musicians. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div Jean Joseph Martin. The life of this bow maker is quite eventful, since his family sank into poverty after the early death of his father, and he subsequently left, travelling on foot to Paris to work for Vuillaume in 1858. He remained there for five years, quickly becoming one of the most successful bow makers in the workshop, before moving back to Mirecourt, where he employed several workers. During his Parisian years, he made bows on the \u201cVUILLAUME\u201d model, usually with a rather strong and rounded head, and a deeply carved frog throat. The bow in Bylsma&#8217;s collection was made precisely during the maker\u2019s time at Vuillaume\u2019s, around 1860, as confirmed by its \u201cJ.B. Vuillaume\u201d stamp.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>In good condition, it attests to the great craftsmanship of this singular master who, around 1875, had the idea of \u200b\u200bcreating a <em>Union Ouvri\u00e8re<\/em> bringing together workers from several violin and bow making houses, including Maison Mennesson.<a href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a> His style during the Parisian years has often been compared to that of Fran\u00e7ois Nicolas Voirin, another bow maker highly regarded by Anner Bylsma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;His best work (made during his tenure at Vuillaume\u2019s) resembles that of F.N. stick by Fran\u00e7ois Nicolas Voirin will also be for sale on Thursday 2 December 2021, alongside the bows by <a href=\"https:\/\/vichy-encheres.com\/2021\/11\/14\/archets-etienne-pajeot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Etienne Pajeot<\/a> and Jean Joseph Martin. Stamped \u201cF.N. They worked there at the same time, which explains the stylistic similarity of some of their bows. Vuillaume, who very satisfied with Voirin&#8217;s work, mentioned him as a collaborator in relation to some of the bows presented at the 1867 exhibition<a href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>. Voirin, who set up on his own in 1870 in Paris, \u201cthen changed his style: the heads became finer, a characteristic that would only become more accentuated until his death. He is therefore one of the rare bow makers whose style became more refined over time and with experience.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a> &#8211; a feature in evidence in the cello bow
