De nouveaux records et la cons\u00e9cration de plusieurs maitres<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Lors de nos ventes de prestiges d\u2019instruments du quatuor qui se tenaient du 31 mai au 2 juin 2022, plusieurs ma\u00eetres de la lutherie ont \u00e9t\u00e9 consacr\u00e9s par un nouveau record pour l\u2019un de leurs instruments. Ces nouveaux records t\u00e9moignent de la bonne sant\u00e9 du march\u00e9, ainsi que de l\u2019\u00e9volution de leur cote et de leur connaissance. Ces records s\u2019expliquent aussi par la qualit\u00e9 des instruments qui \u00e9taient propos\u00e9s \u00e0 la vente : des instruments in\u00e9dits et d\u00e9couverts \u00e0 Vichy Ench\u00e8res.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Estim\u00e9 15.000\/20.000 euros, ce joli violoncelle de Louis Guersan des ann\u00e9es 1750-1755 a \u00e9t\u00e9 vendu 40.920 euros, battant son ancien record de 37.587 euros r\u00e9alis\u00e9 en 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plusieurs autres records ont \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 enregistr\u00e9s c\u00f4t\u00e9 italien et on a pu assister \u00e0 la reconnaissance de Neldo Ferrari, l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve trop souvent oubli\u00e9 d\u2019Ansaldo Poggi.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Enfin, nous mentionnerons le joli violon d’Enrico Marchetti fait \u00e0 Turin en 1917, vendu au prix de 62.000 euros, r\u00e9alisant ainsi le nouveau record d\u2019adjudication pour un violon du luthier.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Son dernier record pour un violon datait de 2013 et s\u2019\u00e9levait \u00e0 33.617 euros, un chiffre nettement inf\u00e9rieur \u00e0 l\u2019actuel.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Cette vente a \u00e9galement permis de mettre en lumi\u00e8re un int\u00e9ressant violon fait \u00e0 Cr\u00e9mone en 1755, portant l\u2019\u00e9tiquette de Michelangelo Bergonzi (Cr\u00e9mone, c.1720 – c.1770).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Un violon de Vuillaume provenant de l\u2019exceptionnelle collection Soil <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Il est des noms qui r\u00e9sonnent dans le monde de la lutherie, celui de Soil est l\u2019un des plus m\u00e9morables. Les instruments \u201cSoil\u201d d\u00e9signent des violons provenant de la collection d\u2019Am\u00e9d\u00e9e Soil, consid\u00e9r\u00e9s comme les meilleurs du monde. Jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce jour, seuls des instruments de ma\u00eetres cr\u00e9monais \u00e9taient connus, et non des moindres, puisque l\u2019on pense \u00e0 Stradivari et Guarneri. La pr\u00e9paration de la vente Vichy Ench\u00e8res a permis la d\u00e9couverte extraordinaire d\u2019un nouvel instrument provenant de l\u2019exceptionnelle collection Soil, et qui plus est d\u2019un mod\u00e8le fran\u00e7ais : un tr\u00e8s beau violon de Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume !<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Un nom qui, en d\u00e9finitive, ne saurait nous surprendre, puisque quel autre luthier, si ce n\u2019est le plus grand du XIX\u00e8me<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, aurait pu s\u00e9duire l’exigeant collectionneur ? Cette d\u00e9couverte inesp\u00e9r\u00e9e d\u2019un violon ayant appartenu \u00e0 Am\u00e9d\u00e9e Soil donne aujourd\u2019hui un nouvel \u00e9clairage sur cette collection iconique, compos\u00e9e d\u2019instruments d\u2019exception. Ce tr\u00e8s beau Vuillaume confirme la qualit\u00e9 de la collection Soil et l\u2019exigence du tournaisien dans le choix de ses violons, toujours r\u00e9alis\u00e9s par les plus grands ma\u00eetres de l\u2019histoire de la lutherie. Sans surprise, l\u2019instrument a s\u00e9duit musiciens, amateurs et connaisseurs, et a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 le beau prix de 250.480 euros.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Une viola da braccio de la Renaissance italienne<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Autre pi\u00e8ce phare de la vente du 2 juin 2022, un instrument rare surgissant du pass\u00e9, \u00e0 l\u2019origine du d\u00e9veloppement de la viole et de l\u2019alto. Si certains instruments semblent porter avec eux une partie de l\u2019histoire de l\u2019humanit\u00e9, c\u2019est le cas de cette viola da braccio. R\u00e9alis\u00e9 durant la premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 du XVI\u00e8me <\/sup>si\u00e8cle, ce mod\u00e8le est l\u2019un des rares parvenus jusqu\u2019\u00e0 nous. Surgissant de la Renaissance, c\u2019est toute l\u2019histoire de la viole et du futur alto que porte en lui l\u2019instrument.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Pi\u00e8ce d\u2019exception, tr\u00e9sor historique, cette viola da braccio probablement r\u00e9alis\u00e9e vers 1520 \u00e0 Brescia est \u00e0 la fois unique, puisqu\u2019elle s\u2019inscrit comme un jalon de l\u2019\u00e9volution de l\u2019instrument, tout en renvoyant \u00e0 la foisonnante culture italienne de l\u2019\u00e9poque, dont rendent compte l\u2019iconographie musicale et les quelques instruments subsistants. Objet de curiosit\u00e9, t\u00e9moignage des pratiques instrumentales et de la facture, l\u2019instrument a \u00e9t\u00e9 vendu 25.520 euros.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Un remarquable violon d\u2019un luthier unique : Antonio Gragnani<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Antonio Gragnani est un luthier \u00e0 part dans l\u2019histoire de la lutherie, dont l’\u0153uvre est synonyme de libert\u00e9 et \u00e9voque les grandes heures du port de Livourne. \u201cLibert\u00e9\u201d, car Gragnani exer\u00e7a toute sa vie \u00e0 Livourne, en marge des autres \u00e9coles, ce qui lui permit d\u2019\u00e9laborer un style unique.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\n

R\u00e9sultant du dynamisme de la ville portuaire et des mat\u00e9riaux fournis par le front de mer, la facture d\u2019Antonio Gragnani donne \u00e0 ses instruments un charme singulier et \u00e9vocateur. Le jeudi 2 juin 2022, Vichy Ench\u00e8res vous proposait de voyager avec ce remarquable violon de Gragnani, le luthier de Livourne\u2026 L\u2019instrument, qui \u00e9tait estim\u00e9 50.000\/60.000 euros, fut au c\u0153ur de toutes les attentions et partit au prix de 116.560 euros !<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Concernant l’arch\u00e8terie fran\u00e7aise, la famille Simon fut particuli\u00e8rement bien repr\u00e9sent\u00e9e, avec quatre instruments de Nicolas Simon, dit Simon FR, et deux archets de Pierre Simon – le seul archetier de la famille \u00e0 avoir quitt\u00e9 Mirecourt pour rejoindre la capitale.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Particuli\u00e8rement int\u00e9ressants, ces deux instruments r\u00e9alis\u00e9s vers 1845 et 1850, se font le reflet des collaborations parisiennes de Pierre Simon et nous donnent ainsi l\u2019occasion de revenir sur l’\u0153uvre et la vie de ce ma\u00eetre de plus en plus recherch\u00e9. Ils furent respectivement adjug\u00e9s 64.480 euros et 23.560 euros.  <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Des archets d\u2019Eug\u00e8ne Sartory et Bernard Millant de la collection John Cohen <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lors de la vente de prestige d\u2019instruments du quatuor du 2 juin 2022, une partie de la collection du musicien et ancien directeur de l\u2019Orchestre de l\u2019Op\u00e9ra de Paris, John Cohen, fut dispers\u00e9e aux ench\u00e8res. De grande qualit\u00e9, cette collection d\u2019archets \u00e9tait essentiellement compos\u00e9e de mod\u00e8les d\u2019Eug\u00e8ne Sartory et de Bernard Millant. Celle-ci rendait compte de l\u2019\u00e9rudition du musicien et de son exigence qualitative dans le choix de ses instruments.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\n

Elle comprenait trois mod\u00e8les du meilleur archetier du XX\u00e8me<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, Eug\u00e8ne Sartory, r\u00e9alis\u00e9s \u00e0 trois moments diff\u00e9rents de sa carri\u00e8re et t\u00e9moignant de la constante excellence de son savoir-faire. Les deux autres instruments \u00e9taient de la main de Bernard Millant, l\u2019une des personnalit\u00e9s les plus marquantes de l\u2019archeterie contemporaine, et faisaient partie de sa p\u00e9riode d\u2019or. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

During our prestigious sales of quartet instruments, which were held from 31 May to 2 June 2022, several master violin-makers gained recognition with a new record for one of their instruments. These new records reflect the strength of the market, as well as the evolution in the way these makers\u2019 work is understood and valued. These records can also be explained by the quality of the instruments on offer: some were new discoveries making their first appearance on the market.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

With an estimate of 15,000 to 20,000 euros, this handsome cello by Louis Guersan from the period 1750-1755 sold for 40,920 euros, beating the previous record for an instrument by this maker, which was 37,587 euros and was set in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are names that resonate in the world of violin making, and, amongst them, that of Soil is one of the most memorable. \u2018Soil\u2019 instruments refer to violins from the collection of Am\u00e9d\u00e9e Soil, considered to be the best in the world. Until recently, only instruments by Cremonese makers \u2013 and not just any, since they were made by Stradivari and Guarneri \u2013 were known to have been part of the collection. During the preparations for the Vichy Ench\u00e8res sale on 2 June 2022 we made an extraordinary discovery in the form of a new instrument from the exceptional Soil collection, and, interestingly, one of French origin: a very beautiful violin by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

This name, ultimately, should not be a surprise, as no other 19th<\/sup> century violin maker, but the greatest, could have won over the demanding collector. This unexpected discovery of a violin that belonged to Am\u00e9d\u00e9e Soil sheds new light on his iconic collection, which is made up of exceptional instruments. This very beautiful Vuillaume confirms the exceptional quality of the Soil collection and the high standards of the man from Tournai when choosing his violins, which were always made by the greatest masters in the history of violin making. Unsurprisingly, the instrument appealed to musicians, amateurs and connoisseurs alike, and achieved the handsome price of 250,480 euros.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Another highlight from the 2 June 2022 sale was a rare instrument emerging from the past, and at the origin of the development of the viol and the viola. There are fascinating instruments that seem to carry with them a piece of human history; this viola da braccio is one of them. Made during the first half of the 16th century, this instrument is one of the few of this type that have come down to us. A product of the Renaissance, it bears witness to the entire history of the viol and of the future viola.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\n

This exceptional piece, of historical significance, was probably made around 1520 in Brescia and it is both unique, since it represents a milestone in the evolution of the instrument, and a testimony to the burgeoning culture in Italy at the time, reflected in the musical representations and the few surviving instruments. This instrument, part object of curiosity and part testimony to instrumental practices and craftsmanship, sold for 25,520 euros.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A remarkable violin by a unique maker: Antonio Gragnani<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Antonio Gragnani is a unique personality in the history of violin making, whose work is synonymous with freedom and evokes the heyday of the port of Livorno. Freedom, because Gragnani worked all his life in Livorno, on the fringes of other schools, which allowed him to develop his own unique style.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\n

The craftsmanship of Antonio Gragnani, which was influenced by the very active port city where he worked and by the materials arriving from overseas through the shipping trade, gave his instruments a singular and evocative charm. On Thursday 2 June 2022, Vichy Ench\u00e8res provided you the opportunity to travel with a remarkable violin by Gragnani, the maker from Livorno… The instrument, which had an estimate of 50,000 to 60,000 euros, was the subject of a lot of interest and went for 116,560 euros!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Regarding French bow making, the Simon family were be particularly well represented, with four bows by Nicolas Simon, aka Simon FR, and two by Pierre Simon \u2013 the only bow maker in the family to have left Mirecourt to move to Paris.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

During the sale of fine string quartet instruments on 2 June 2022, part of the collection of musician and former director of the Orchestre de l’Op\u00e9ra de Paris<\/em>, John Cohen, was sold at auction. This outstanding collection of bows essentially included examples by Eug\u00e8ne Sartory and Bernard Millant. This shows that the musician was a fine connoisseur of bows and was very demanding in choosing them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

It included three examples by the best bowmaker of the 20th<\/sup> century, Eug\u00e8ne Sartory, made during three different periods of his career and demonstrating the consistent excellence of his craftsmanship. The other two bows were by Bernard Millant, one of the most outstanding personalities in contemporary bow making, and was made during his golden period.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
