N\u00e9 \u00e0 Moret sur Loing le 26 juillet 1848, ce fils d’horloger, intelligent, ing\u00e9nieux et curieux, va rapidement embrasser le m\u00e9tier de son p\u00e8re. \u00c0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 14 ans, il entre \u00e0 l’\u00e9cole horlog\u00e8re de Besan\u00e7on d’o\u00f9 il sort premier de sa promotion quatre ans plus tard.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Il devient alors son propre patron et son atelier prend un rapide essor, employant jusqu’\u00e0 60 personnes. Des pi\u00e8ces exceptionnelles sont r\u00e9alis\u00e9es telles que la pendule \u00e0 complications command\u00e9e par le gouvernement fran\u00e7ais pour le Tzar Alexandre III.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Les premiers phonographes de LIORET sont fabriqu\u00e9s en 1893, en collaboration avec Emile JUMEAU qui lui demande de r\u00e9aliser un appareil reproducteur du son, miniaturis\u00e9, pouvant se loger dans le corps d’une poup\u00e9e. D\u00e8s cette r\u00e9alisation – couronn\u00e9e de succ\u00e8s – Henri LIORET d\u00e9laisse peu \u00e0 peu l’horlogerie en faveur de la fabrication de phonographes.
Il d\u00e9pose en mai 1893 un brevet d\u00e9crivant la m\u00e9thode de fabrication et de duplication de cylindres en cellulo\u00efd, plus solides et inusables, par rapport aux cylindres traditionnels en cire. Il est le premier \u00e0 enregistrer et dupliquer des phonogrammes de longue dur\u00e9e (quatre minutes).
En 1894, il met au point le c\u00e9l\u00e8bre \u00abMerveilleux\u00bb, ayant pour base et technique le phonographe log\u00e9 dans les poup\u00e9es JUMEAU. L’ann\u00e9e suivante, il met au point d’autres appareils totalement diff\u00e9rents de ceux de ses concurrents am\u00e9ricains. Les Lioretgraphs, (sans \u00abe\u00bb, nom g\u00e9n\u00e9rique donn\u00e9 par son inventeur aux appareils sortant de ses ateliers) ne sont pas \u00e9quip\u00e9s de vis sans fin, ni de reproducteurs, et parlent \u00e0 \u00abhaute voix\u00bb, sans l’aide de tubes acoustiques, mais gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des r\u00e9sonateurs \u00e0 membranes multiples.
De nombreux mod\u00e8les sortent de l’atelier de Henri LIORET, en particulier le Lioretgraph No 3 de 1899, disposant d’un grand volant r\u00e9gulateur, pavillon et reproducteur en aluminium. La particularit\u00e9 de ce type de phonographe r\u00e9side dans le fait que le moteur est m\u00fb par la chute d’un poids, \u00e0 l’instar des horloges. Ce syst\u00e8me conf\u00e8re une rotation r\u00e9guli\u00e8re du moteur, \u00e9liminant ainsi le d\u00e9faut des moteurs traditionnels, ayant tendance \u00e0 l’\u00e9puisement de l’inertie caus\u00e9e par la d\u00e9tente progressive du ressort.
Ces Lioretgraphs sont ainsi mont\u00e9s sur une tablette support\u00e9e par un tr\u00e9pied en bois noirci, \u00e0 une hauteur d’environ 1m30 du sol, permettant la descente du poids.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Notons que ces quelques lignes ne font que survoler l’\u0153uvre de ce g\u00e9nial inventeur, horloger et m\u00e9canicien que f\u00fbt Henri LIORET. N’oublions pas qu’il f\u00fbt tout aussi important dans l’\u00e9volution de l’\u00e9tude du son et connaissances de l’acoustique que les illustres Charles CROS, Thomas EDISON, ou bien Scott de MARTINVILLE.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Born in Moret sur Loing on 26 July 1848, this intelligent, ingenious and inquisitive son of a watchmaker quickly embraced his father’s profession. At the age of 14, he entered the Besan\u00e7on watchmaking school from which he graduated, first in his class, four years later.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

He then set up on his own and his workshop grew rapidly, employing up to 60 people. Exceptional pieces were made there, such as the complication clock commissioned by the French government for Tsar Alexander III.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The first LIORET phonographs were made in 1893, in collaboration with Emile JUMEAU, who asked him to make a miniature sound reproduction device that could be fitted in the body of a doll. The success of this innovation convinced Henri LIORET to gradually abandon watchmaking in favour of the manufacture of phonographs.
In May 1893, he filed a patent describing the method of manufacturing and duplicating celluloid cylinders, which were stronger and more durable than traditional wax cylinders. He was the first to record and duplicate phonograms of long duration (four minutes).
In 1894, he perfected the famous \u201cMerveilleux\u201d, whose technical elements were based on the phonograph housed in the JUMEAU dolls. The following year, he developed other devices that differed dramatically from those of his American competitors at the time. The Lioretgraphs (without an “e” at the end, which was the generic name given by its inventor to the devices coming out of his workshops) did not have screws without an end or reproducers, and instead spoke “in a loud voice” thanks to multiple membrane resonators, without the need for acoustic tubes.
Many different models came out of the workshop of Henri LIORET, in particular Lioretgraph No 3 of 1899, with a large regulating wheel, bell and reproducer in aluminium. The particularity of this type of phonograph lies in the fact that the engine is moved by the fall of a weight, like in clocks. This system confers a regular rotation to the engine, therefore eliminating the defect of traditional engines, which suffered from the exhaustion of the inertia caused by the progressive relaxation of the spring.
These Lioretgraphs were mounted on a tablet supported by a blackened wooden tripod, at a height of approximately 1m30 from the ground, allowing the weight to be lowered.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
