Le violoniste belge Arthur GRUMIAUX (1921-1986) est de ces artistes que l\u2019on dirait volontiers touch\u00e9s par la gr\u00e2ce. Au cours de sa vie, il manifesta un v\u00e9ritable don pour le violon dont il devint l\u2019un des plus grands interpr\u00e8tes de sa g\u00e9n\u00e9ration, tout en faisant montre d\u2019aptitudes certaines pour le piano. Jeudi 7 juin 2018, Ma\u00eetre Etienne LAURENT mettra en vente \u00e0 Vichy le demi-queue Steinway d\u2019Arthur GRUMIAUX\u2026   <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab Ce grand violoniste belge, qui a connu une carri\u00e8re internationale, avait la particularit\u00e9 d\u2019avoir men\u00e9 de front des \u00e9tudes de violon et de piano <\/em>\u00bb, d\u00e9taille Ma\u00eetre Etienne LAURENT.
Aussi, lorsqu\u2019il se concentra sur le violon, il resta dans le m\u00eame temps irr\u00e9m\u00e9diablement attach\u00e9 \u00e0 son deuxi\u00e8me amour qu\u2019il pratiquait, au gr\u00e9 de son temps libre, sur un demi-queue Steinway, en bois laqu\u00e9 noir.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab Il s\u2019agit d\u2019un piano de tout premier ordre pour un musicien, <\/em>poursuit le commissaire-priseur. En effet, en mati\u00e8re de Steinway, marque de piano la plus illustre, nous distinguons deux productions, l\u2019une newyorkaise, l\u2019autre provenant d\u2019Hambourg. La seconde, plus prestigieuse, caract\u00e9rise notre instrument dat\u00e9 de 1961<\/em>. Arthur GRUMIAUX y a probablement compos\u00e9 certaines de ses \u0153uvres qu\u2019il enregistrait et dont il effectuait non seulement la partie au violon, mais aussi celle au piano !<\/em> \u00bb La l\u00e9gende raconte m\u00eame que le chef d\u2019orchestre suisse Ernest ANSERMET, ignorant ce double talent, aurait f\u00e9licit\u00e9 le violoniste d\u2019avoir d\u00e9nich\u00e9 un si bon pianiste\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A la mort du violoniste en 1986, le piano conna\u00eet un nouveau souffle et se met d\u00e9sormais au service d\u2019une belle cause : la fondation Arthur GRUMIAUX<\/a>, bas\u00e9e \u00e0 Gand en Belgique. Fond\u00e9e par Amanda GRUMIAUX, l\u2019\u00e9pouse du musicien, l\u2019association \u0153uvre depuis plus de vingt ans en faveur de l\u2019acc\u00e8s au plus grand nombre \u00e0 la pratique musicale. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Amanda GRUMIAUX a l\u00e9gu\u00e9 les instruments de son mari afin qu\u2019ils soient pr\u00eat\u00e9s \u00e0 de jeunes musiciens talentueux qui n\u2019ont pas forc\u00e9ment les moyens financiers de se procurer un bon violon, archet ou piano. Trop encombrant et difficilement d\u00e9pla\u00e7able, le piano doit toutefois aujourd\u2019hui quitter la fondation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belgian violinist Arthur GRUMIAUX (1921-1986) was an artist touched by grace. He had a real gift for the violin, becoming one of the greatest violinists of his generation, but he was also a good pianist. On Thursday 7 June 2018, Maitre Etienne LAURENT will be in charge of the sale the Steinway medium grand piano of Arthur GRUMIAUX in Vichy.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis great Belgian violinist, who had a successful international career, was unusual in having studied both the violin and the piano<\/em>\u201d, explains Maitre Etienne LAURENT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whilst he concentrated his efforts on the violin, he remained at the same time always attached to his second love, which he practiced in his free time on a Steinway medium grand piano, in black lacquered wood.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cThis is a high quality piano for a musician<\/em>\u201d, indicates the auctioneer. \u201cIndeed, Steinway, the most prestigious piano brand, had two production centres: one in New York, the other in Hamburg. The latter, which produced the best instruments, is the one where our piano was made in 1961. Arthur GRUMIAUX probably composed some of his works on it, which he then recorded, performing not only the violin part, but also that of the piano!<\/em>\u201c Legend has it that the Swiss conductor Ernest ANSERMET, unaware of this double talent, would have congratulated the violinist for having unearthed such a good pianist.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Upon the death of the violinist in 1986, the piano experienced a new lease of life when it was bequeathed to the\u00a0fondation Arthur GRUMIAUX<\/a>, based in Ghent in Belgium. Founded by Amanda GRUMIAUX, the musician’s wife, the association has been working for more than 20 years to promote access to music for as many people as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Amanda GRUMIAUX bequeathed her husband’s instruments so that they could be loaned to talented young musicians who do not necessarily have the financial means to acquire a good violin, bow or piano themselves. In order to qualify, applicants must have a worthy professional project and commit to the good maintenance of the instrument on loan.\u201d<\/p>\nJuliette DESMARCHELIER

However, due to its bulk and the difficulty to move it, the piano must now leave the foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
